I. About the University and the Institute

Southeast University (SEU), located in Nanjing, the ancient capital of six dynasties, is a prestigious, top-tier research university directly under China’s Ministry of Education. A key member of the national “Double First-Class” university initiative, SEU has 12 disciplines included in the program, ranking eighth nationwide. It is a comprehensive, research-intensive institution recognized globally for excellence across engineering, humanities, and social sciences.

The Institute of International and Regional Studies (IIRS), led by Executive Dean and Chief Professor Wang Qilong, serves as a high-level interdisciplinary research hub. The IIRS integrates a leading national think tank with four specialized research centers:

  • South Asian and Himalayan Studies

  • African Studies

  • Russian and Eurasian Studies

  • East Asian Studies

Drawing on the academic strengths of the School of Foreign Languages and other humanities and social science faculties, the IIRS features a distinguished faculty of national-level scholars. The Institute is dedicated to high-impact policy consultation, regional expertise, and the development of an autonomous Chinese knowledge system for international and regional studies.


II. Fellowship Tracks and Compensation

1. Fellowship Tracks

  • Zhishan Postdoctoral Fellow: (distinguished postdoctoral track)

  • Regular Postdoctoral Fellow

The initial appointment is three years, with the possibility of one additional three-year renewal. Regular postdoctoral fellows who meet the relevant requirements during their appointment may apply to transfer into the Zhishan Postdoctoral Fellow track.

2. Salary and Funding Support (All funding sources can be combined)

  • Annual Salary:

☆Zhishan Postdoctoral Fellow: RMB 350,000 per year

☆Regular Postdoctoral Fellow: RMB 180,000 per year, plus a minimum of RMB 10,000 per year in supervisor subsidy

  • National Programs: Applicants may apply for the National Postdoctoral Funding Program

☆Category B: RMB 180,000 per year

☆Category C: RMB 120,000 per year

  • Provincial Program:

Jiangsu Outstanding Postdoctoral Program: RMB 300,000 over two years

  • Career Development Pathway:

Zhishan Fellows who receive an excellent evaluation in their first term and are reappointed for a second term may apply for senior academic ranks. Those who are promoted to Associate Professor (or higher) through this review, and who subsequently meet all faculty hiring requirements, are eligible to join SEU’s tenured faculty.

  • Benefits:

Postdoctoral fellows enjoy comprehensive benefits, including:

III. Eligibility Requirements

Applicants should:

  • Support the leadership of the Communist Party of China, abide by the Constitution and laws of the People’s Republic of China, and demonstrate strong professional ethics and integrity.

  • Normally be under 32 years of age; exceptionally qualified candidates may be considered up to 35 years of age.

  • Possess a strong academic background, demonstrated research potential, and the ability to conduct independent research.

  • Conduct research under the supervision of a distinguished scholar with recognized expertise in the relevant research field.
